My Family's Legacy- Why I Love Marriage

black and white 1940s wedding couple seated and smiling at the camera

Jeannette and Montel, my dad's parents. She was seventeen when they got married in her home country of New Caledonia. He was stationed there with the US Army band, and they fell in love. They moved to North Dakota, and eventually settled in Southern California. My dad and his brothers were raised by these fire and ice personalities who remained devoted to one another with a fierce sacrificial love to the end.

Mark and Lynn, my parents. They celebrated their marriage right after my dad finished optometry school in California, and they moved across the country the next week to pursue his dream of owning and operating an optometry practice in Colorado. They are still traveling the country and pursuing their dream retirement filled with camping, hiking, fishing, and grandkids.

Lois and Howard, my mom's parents. They don't have an official wedding photo because they eloped! They were married in Massachusetts. This photo is from their fiftieth wedding anniversary, when they renewed their vows after a lifetime filled with hardship and making it through. They spent the remainder of their years together making pies, doing puzzles, and going out to breakfast at their favorite cafe in the mountains. Theirs is a story of perseverance, forgiveness, and "doing what you gotta."

“Kim was SO great to work with!! Not only was she taking pictures but she was also the one helping with my train and veil while we were moving around. She was a pleasure and put a genuine smile on my face, which was captured in the pictures. So thankful to have had her as part of our big day. Thank you, Kim!!!”
